This fun and energetic class includes a diverse range of styles from Broadway musical theatre tap through to today’s tap style trends. Each class includes technique and warm up exercises at the barre and in the centre, and finishes with learning a killer tap routine that you’ll keep wanting to practice all week!

Grant began training in theatre arts from the age of five years at the May Downs Dance Studio in Melbourne. He competed regularly for fifteen years in all the major Victorian dance competitions, winning all major awards including a grand aggregate.

At the age of fourteen years, Grant was awarded a scholarship to study the Luigi Technique and Theatre Craft with Betty Pounder, resident choreographer for J.C.Williamsons at Her Majesty’s Theatre, Melbourne. Whilst there, he also studied Classical Ballet (including pas de deux with Lynn Golding) and attended classes with various teachers from the U.S.A. Jillian Fitzgerald invited Grant to study the Matt Mattox Technique with her and appeared regularly on television variety shows in her company of dancers. At the age of eighteen years, Grant was asked to train with the original cast of A Chorus Line. Grant also ventured overseas to study dance in London and New York.
TEACHING AND ADJUDICATIONS
Grant was part of the teaching faculty at Dance World 301 in Melbourne, at the same time teaching jazz, tap and ballet at the Heidelberg Ballet School for Lorraine Blackbourn. He has been a resident dance teacher at the Ross Coleman Performing Arts Centre (Sydney), Dancezone (Melbourne), Industry School of Dance and the University of Ballarat in the Performing Arts program. Grant was Head of Music Theatre Dance at the Victorian Ballet School. He has also assessed students at the Victorian College of the Arts. Grant is currently on the teaching faculty at CentreStage performing arts studio in Melbourne.
Grant has a wide and varied experience as a dance adjudicator. He has adjudicated dance eisteddfods in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland, including the annual MMM Rock Eisteddfod (1991-94). Grant has adjudicated the dance sections at numerous eisteddfods and dance competitions including Greater Geelong Premier Performing Arts Competition, City of Bayswater Dance Eisteddfod (Perth), TAAD Teachers of the Australian Academy of Dance, City of Dandenong Dance Eisteddfod, Moe/Newborough/Yallourn North Dance Eisteddfod, Melton/Bacchus Marsh Dancing Festival, TAAD Theatrical Dance Examinations, Southern Tasmanian Dance Eisteddfod (Hobart) Royal Bendigo Dance Eisteddfod and Warragul Dance Festival, Southern Tasmanian Dancing Eisteddfod, Onstage Dancing Competition (Perth).and Launceston Dance Festival.
Grant has worked with Kerrie Hayes Productions as a production and choreographic assistant on the entertainment spectaculars stage by the company for the major sporting events in Australia, including the AFL Grand Finals at the MCG. He was involved in the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park, the World Cup Qualifier: Australia Vs Iran at the MCG, the Australian Football League State of Origin at the MCG and the Australian Football League Grand Final Spectaculars, including the Celebration of Australian Cinema, the AFL Centenary Celebration and the Year of Indigenous People (for which he worked as repetiteur, teaching the especially commissioned choreography of Stephen Page (Bangarra Dance Company) to young performers from Melbourne schools, as well as aboriginal communities throughout Victoria.
Grant was nominated for a Melbourne Green Room Award for his original choreography for the world premiere concert performances of Graeme Base’s The Sign of the Seahorse at the Melbourne Concert Hall for Playbox Theatre Company, directed by Tom Healey. Grant co-produced The Backyard Games for Sha-bam Productions and reproduced his work on The Sign of the Seahorse at the Adelaide Festival Theatre for co-producers, Windmill Performing Arts Company and Playbox Theatre Company. Grant worked with director Tom Healey as mentor for a student choreographer on “I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change at the University of Melbourne.
